Capomics
Omics of Capability — methods for measuring and characterizing intrinsic human capabilities
Full Definition
Capomics (Omics of Capability) is the systematic measurement and characterization of intrinsic human capabilities across different scales and dimensions. In 2020, the author proposed the concept of 'capability as target,' arguing that intrinsic capability should be established as a distinct concept alongside structure and function in living organisms.
Deduction from First Principles
First principle: Life is an adaptive capability ensemble.
Deduction:
1. If life is a capability ensemble, then understanding life states requires characterizing capabilities.
2. Capabilities cannot be reduced to a single metric but constitute a set of measurable, comparable dimensions.
3. Therefore, a new conceptual system — 'capomics' — must be established to describe the types, reserves, dynamic changes, and interactions of capabilities.
Why It Matters
Traditional medicine focuses on 'structural damage' and 'functional abnormalities,' but many chronic diseases and aging processes do not begin with obvious structural damage. Capomics provides an earlier, more systematic intervention window: intervening when capability reserves decline but before disease manifests.
